Gwen Terry Speaking

Gwent Terry, Turramurra, New South Wales, 1978

Sometime between July 1968, when her brother David Davies died, and May 1974, when her second cousin John Morgan died, Gwen Terry recorded a short piece on a cassette tape in which she reminisced about her father Richard Erwyd Davies (R.E.D) and about her childhood and adolescence in Gulargambone and Tumut.

Gwen had a beautiful speaking voice which is immediately recognisable to her grandchildren.

The recording is addressed to Gwen’s paternal first cousin John Morgan (1893-1974), then living in Ramsgate, Kent, England. It was instigated by Gwen’s daughter Alison, probably prior to one of Alison’s trip’s to England. However the cassette tape never left Australia. After Gwen’s death it came into the possession of her daughter Margaret and then into mine. Fortunately it was still viable in 2026 and I was able to digitise it.
